This comes after several violent incidents over the past four days, prompting the Prime Minister to call for the full deployment of India's counter-terrorism capabilities.
In response to the rise in terrorist encounters in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an urgent review meeting to evaluate the region’s security status. This comes after several violent incidents over the past four days, prompting the Prime Minister to call for the full deployment of India’s counter-terrorism capabilities.
During the session, PM Modi engaged with Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, discussing the current security scenario and the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the Union Territory. Modi received comprehensive updates on the steps and progress of these operations. He also communicated with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to grasp the local administration’s measures to maintain order.
According to a report from NDTV, Modi has instructed the authorities to utilize the entire range of the armed forces’ counter-terrorism resources. This order follows a particularly violent stretch, with multiple encounters reported across Jammu and Kashmir.
The most recent incident occurred in Doda district, injuring a soldier. This marks the second attack in Doda and the fourth in the area within just four days. The escalation began on June 9, when terrorists attacked a bus carrying pilgrims in the Reasi district, resulting in nine fatalities.
Further violence unfolded in Kathua, south of Doda, where security forces engaged with a group of three to four terrorists. Despite challenging terrain, search operations continue to neutralize the threat. On the Bhaderwah-Pathankot Road in Chattergalla, an attack on a joint checkpost injured five Rashtriya Rifles soldiers and a special police officer, prompting reinforcements to secure the area.
In Kathua, another confrontation ended with the death of a suspected Pakistani terrorist after an overnight encounter, during which a CRPF soldier also lost his life. These events have underscored the urgent need for enhanced security measures in the region.
Following these developments, PM Modi stressed the significance of deploying India’s full counter-terrorism capabilities to address the growing threat. He emphasized a robust response and assured continued support to the security forces and local administration to restore peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
