India entered the top 50 of the Oookla Speedtest Global Index list thanks to a significant increase in the world's mobile download speed. India surpasses numerous G20 nations to take up the 47th rank on the list, moving up 72 spots overall.

The Seattle-based business Ookla is well-known for its data, analysis, and testing applications for fixed broadband and mobile networks. The Speedtest Index is utilized by internet service providers, carriers, corporations, colleges, and government organizations, thus India's new rating there is quite important.

India's 5G, would further increase mobile download speed

The research claims that India's achievement was made possible by the country's introduction of 5G services. According to the research, the country's speed performance has increased by 3.59 times since the launch of 5G.

From 13.87 Mbps in September 2022, the median download speeds increased to 50.21 Mbps in August 2023.

According to the Speedtest Global Index, "this improvement has led to India's rise, moving up 72 places, from the 119th place to the 47th position," the index added.

India surpasses Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh on the index, as well as other G20 countries including Mexico (90th), Turkey (68th), the UK (62nd), Japan (58th), Brazil (50th), and South Africa (48th).

By investing in backhaul infrastructure, operators have enhanced the overall user experience across all telecom circles as a result of the 5G deployments.

The Net Promoter Score (NPS), which reveals that 5G customers in India routinely evaluate their network operators more favorably than 4G users, demonstrates that 5G has not only provided faster speeds but also better customer happiness.

India's mobile users are among the world's biggest consumers of data, according to Ookla. Due mostly to network congestion and spectrum restrictions, the nation's subpar 4G networks were unable to meet expectations.

The Indian government introduced 5G technology with many carriers, including Reliance Jio and Bharati Airtel, to address this issue. The number of 5G customers has significantly increased since the debut, and operators still have aggressive roll-out plans.

In reality, this year's Independence Day speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi included an announcement about the formation of a task group for 6G services. "My nation is the one that has implemented 5G the quickest. More than 700 districts have been covered, and we are currently preparing for 6G.
