If you enjoy floating above the hills in a ropeway, feeling like you’re flying and soaking in beautiful views, then Mussoorie should be on your travel list. A brand-new ropeway line is coming soon, and it’s expected to be India’s longest passenger ropeway!
The exciting project is being built by Mussoorie Sky Car Private Limited and was officially announced at INTERALPIN 2023 in Innsbruck, Austria.
This modern ropeway will start running in September 2026. It will stretch 5.2 kilometres and climb 1,000 metres from Dehradun to Mussoorie. Right now, traveling between the two places takes almost 2 hours by road. But the new ropeway will cover the same distance in just 20 minutes!
This system is called a monocable detachable gondola, and it’s designed for comfort and beautiful views.
Safety is a big priority for this project. It’s a joint effort between three companies:
-
FIL Industries
-
SRM Engineering
-
POMA SAS from France
The ropeway will use waterproof gondolas that run on electricity, making it eco-friendly. It will also be open all year round for tourists. It will also follow European safety standards to keep all passengers safe. Some parts will even be made in India, which will help local industries and provide more jobs.
