The national capital also reported one more COVID-related death, bringing its total fatalities to four. The total number of active cases in Delhi now stands at 483.

Kerala reports most cases, followed by Maharashtra and Delhi

Kerala remains the worst-hit state with 1,435 active cases, followed by Maharashtra (506) and Delhi (483). West Bengal and Gujarat have also seen rising numbers, with 339 and 338 active cases, respectively.

In the past 24 hours, one death each was reported in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. The victim in Delhi was a 22-year-old woman with a pre-existing lung condition, while Tamil Nadu reported the death of a 25-year-old man with bronchial issues. Maharashtra lost a 44-year-old man, while Kerala’s fatality details are still awaited.

Despite the rise, health authorities have urged the public to stay calm. According to government sources, most patients are recovering at home, and infections remain mild.

ICMR Director General Dr. Rajiv Bahl confirmed that genome sequencing has found the rise is driven by Omicron subvariants, particularly from western and southern India.
