Many Indian travellers are now cancelling or reconsidering trips to Türkiye and Azerbaijan after both countries appeared to support Pakistan in a conflict involving India. These places are usually among the top choices for Indian tourists, but new travel data shows a steep drop in interest.

Some travellers are even okay with losing money on cancellations just to avoid visiting countries they feel don’t support India.

A spokesperson from MakeMyTrip, a well-known travel company in India, confirmed the change in behaviour. They said,

“Indian travellers have expressed strong sentiments over the past week, with bookings for Azerbaijan and Turkey dropping by 60%, while cancellations surged by 250% during the same period.”

In response, MakeMyTrip said it will no longer promote trips to these countries.

“In solidarity with our nation and out of deep respect for our armed forces, we strongly support this sentiment and advise against non-essential travel to Azerbaijan and Turkey. We have already discontinued all promotions and offers on these destinations.”

This situation reminds many of what happened with the Maldives earlier. After one of its ministers made hurtful comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many Indians quickly cancelled their trips. As a result, tourism in the Maldives took a major hit, affecting its economy.

India's outbound travel market is huge and powerful. As recent events show, many Indian tourists are ready to change their travel plans if they feel a country does not respect India or its leadership.
