Indian Railways is planning to introduce nine new Amrit Bharat Express trains from West Bengal and Assam to make long-distance travel easier and more affordable for passengers. These new trains are aimed at improving connectivity between eastern India and several major regions across the country. By linking distant states through direct rail routes, the Railways hopes to reduce travel difficulties and offer better options to people who depend on trains for long journeys.
The proposed Amrit Bharat Express services will pass through densely populated states such as Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. This is expected to benefit a large number of passengers who frequently travel between cities and towns in these regions. At the same time, the trains will connect faraway states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka, helping to create a strong rail network that links the north, east and south of India through single train services.
Routes of Amrit Bharat Express
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared details of the proposed routes on social media platform X. However, Indian Railways has not yet announced the official launch dates for these new trains. Once introduced, these services are expected to play an important role in improving long-distance connectivity and easing travel for passengers from different economic backgrounds.
The nine proposed routes include Guwahati (Kamakhya) to Rohtak, Dibrugarh to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar), New Jalpaiguri to Nagercoil, New Jalpaiguri to Tiruchirappalli, Alipurduar to SMVT Bengaluru, Alipurduar to Mumbai (Panvel), Kolkata (Santragachi) to Tambaram, Kolkata (Howrah) to Anand Vihar Terminal, and Kolkata (Sealdah) to Banaras. These routes connect major cities as well as smaller towns, making travel more convenient for people across multiple states.
About Amrit Bharat Express trains
Amrit Bharat Express trains were first introduced in December 2023, and so far, 30 such trains are already operational across the country. These trains are non-AC sleeper services designed mainly for middle- and lower-income passengers. They are meant for long-distance travel and offer a comfortable journey at an affordable cost of around Rs 500 per 1,000 kilometres.
Compared to regular passenger trains, Amrit Bharat Express trains run at higher speeds and focus on better scheduling and smoother travel. Their main goal is to connect big cities with smaller towns while keeping ticket prices low. With the planned addition of these nine new trains, Indian Railways is expected to further strengthen its efforts towards inclusive, efficient and affordable rail travel for millions of passengers across India.
