India extended humanitarian aid to the troubled Palestinians in Gaza on Sunday amidst the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. Approximately 6.5 tonnes of medical supplies and 32 tonnes of disaster relief materials have been dispatched to Palestine, with delivery facilitated through Egypt.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi announced on X (formerly Twitter), "An IAF C-17 flight carrying nearly 6.5 tonnes of medical aid and 32 tonnes of disaster relief material for the people of Palestine departs for El-Arish airport in Egypt."

Bagchi detailed, "The consignment comprises crucial life-saving medicines, surgical supplies, shelter provisions such as tents, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, sanitary facilities, and water purification tablets, among other essential items."

Israel-Palestine issue and pledged to continue providing humanitarian support

This humanitarian gesture from India comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority for the loss of civilians in a Gaza hospital. During the conversation, the Prime Minister reaffirmed India's longstanding principled stance on the Israel-Palestine issue and pledged to continue providing humanitarian support to the Palestinian people.

While there is significant conservative support in India for Israel, the Indian government has consistently backed Palestine and Palestinian refugees by contributing to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
