India has been elected to the steering committee of the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network) during its fifth plenary meeting in Beijing. The election, conducted through a multi-stage voting process, makes it one among the 15-member leadership group that was tasked with guiding the global fight against corruption.

What is the GlobE Network and why is it important?

With 121 member countries and 219 member authorities, The GlobE-Network is an initiative under the G20 aiming to combat cross-border financial crimes and corruption. One chair, one vice-chair, and 13 other members constitute its steering committee that gives leadership and direction to the platform.

It fosters international cooperation by sharing best practices, criminal intelligence, and strategies. Launched officially in June 2021 at the UN General Assembly Special Session against Corruption (UNGASS), it provides a unique space for global collaboration against corruption.

India's role in GlobE Network

India's election to the steering committee positions it to significantly influence the global anti-corruption agenda. “As a member of the steering committee, India will play a crucial role in shaping the global agenda against corruption and asset recovery. India's expertise and experience in combating corruption will be valuable assets to GlobE Network,” a CBI spokesperson stated.

Which Indian agencies are involved?

The Union Home Ministry is the central authority for India and represents India in the GlobE Network. The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are the member authorities actively participating in the initiatives of this platform since its inception.

India has been an enthusiastic advocate for the GlobE Network since its inception in 2020 and has thus actively contributed to its development.

"The GlobE Network is a vital platform for international cooperation, and India's participation will strengthen its efforts to combat cross-border financial crimes and corruption," the CBI statement added.
