The Indian Embassy in Israel has started the process of evacuating Indian citizens from the country as the conflict between Israel and Iran continues. The embassy, located in Tel Aviv, is working on helping Indian nationals safely leave the country.
The embassy is currently arranging border crossings, checking operational timings, and helping people get the required visas to exit. The process of registration for those who wish to be evacuated has already started. According to officials, the authorities in Jordan have also asked for visas for the Indians so they can cross the border into Jordan.
The embassy has also applied for electronic visas to speed up the process. However, officials say there might be some delay because of the weekend closures at government offices.
On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said,
“The Indian embassy in Tel Aviv would be making arrangements for the evacuation of the Indians.”
The MEA also said,
“All Indian nationals are requested to register themselves with the Embassy of India in Tel Aviv at (https://www.indembassyisrael.gov.in/indian_national_reg), if not already registered.”
This decision came just hours after an Iranian missile hit a hospital in Beersheba, a city in Israel.
The MEA added, “In view of the recent developments between Israel and Iran, the government of India has decided to evacuate from Israel those Indian nationals who wish to leave.” “Their travel from Israel to India will be facilitated through the land borders and thereafter by air to India.”
The embassy also repeated its earlier message asking Indians in Israel to “remain vigilant and strictly follow the safety guidelines issued by Israeli authorities”.
It added, “The embassy (in Israel) remains continuously in touch with the community with a view to extending all feasible assistance.”
Just a day earlier, India had launched ‘Operation Sindhu’ to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran, as the tension with Israel shows no sign of stopping.
The MEA said, “The government of India accords the highest priority to the safety and security of Indian nationals abroad.” It also said the government will continue to watch the situation closely.
