India's inaugural long-range revolver, named 'Prabal,' is set to be launched today, August 18. Crafted by the government-owned entity Advanced Weapons and Equipment India (AWEIL), the Prabal revolver touts an impressive firing range of up to 50 meters, which is more than twice the distance of other revolvers.
As per statements from AWEIL director AK Maurya, the Prabal revolver showcases a lightweight design and is outfitted with a side swing cylinder. It closely resembles a Webley Scott revolver, characterized by its easily manageable trigger pull. The revolver's weight stands at 700 grams (excluding cartridges), while it possesses a barrel length of 76 mm and an overall length of 177.6 mm.
According to the AWEIL director, bookings for the revolver will be open starting August 18, 2023. Civilians holding the requisite license will have the opportunity to make a purchase.
Situated in Kanpur's Armapur, AWEIL operates as a government-owned enterprise. It operates across eight facilities that were once part of the Ordinance Factory Board (OFB). Its main focus lies in the production of small arms and artillery guns intended for both the Indian armed forces and international military entities. Commencing its operations in 2021, AWEIL was established as a component of the restructuring and corporatization initiative that transformed the OFB into seven distinct Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
This year, the company has been entrusted with a significant contract valued at ₹6,000 crore for the production of defense goods. Notably, this includes an order from the Indian Army for 300 units of the 'Sarang' cannons. Additionally, AWEIL has secured contracts totaling ₹450 crore from various European nations.
