India is preparing to raise a serious concern at an important meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The meeting will take place in Washington, D.C., on Friday, May 9. India plans to talk about its worries regarding the money that the IMF has been giving to Pakistan.

India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, spoke to reporters on Thursday, May 8, in New Delhi. He said that India’s representative at the IMF will share the country’s point of view during the meeting.

"I'm sure that our executive director will put forward India's position," Misri said. He also added, “While decisions of the board are a different matter, Pakistan’s case is self-evident.”

Misri hinted that the money Pakistan receives from the IMF might be misused. He said it could be helping things that harm peace, like terrorism.

“I think the case with regard to Pakistan should be self-evident to those people who 

Pakistan has had 24 IMF bailout programs in the past. But according to India, many of these bailouts didn’t work out properly or didn’t reach the end successfully.

Just last year, in September 2023, Pakistan got a $7 billion loan package from the IMF. Out of this amount, $1 billion has already been given.
