A human skull and bones were found hidden inside a refrigerator in a deserted house on the outskirts of Kochi, Kerala, by Chottanikkara police. The house, located near the Palace Square area, is about 4 kilometers north of the popular Chottanikkara Bhagavathy Temple, and the corpse was discovered during a routine search of the property.

The investigation started after local panchayat authorities lodged a complaint that the house was being used by anti-social elements. In the search, officers opened an old fridge in the unoccupied house, which had been out of use for years. Inside, they found the human skull and bones, packed separately in three different covers. The police believe the bones are several years old, though further testing is needed to determine their exact age.

The house, owned by a resident of Ernakulam, has remained unused and locked for the past 15 to 20 years. Despite its size, situated on a sprawling 14-acre plot, the premises have been neglected. Interestingly, the fridge found inside the house was inoperable—without electricity and missing a compressor—raising more questions about the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

After the inquest proceedings, the police have opened a full investigation into the matter. The authorities are now working to trace the origins of the skull and bones and how they ended up in the fridge of this long-abandoned property.
