According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 468 roads are still blocked, 676 water supply schemes are not working, and 1,199 electricity transformers are not functioning as of 10 AM on Monday.
Two National Highways—NH-21 and NH-154—are also blocked. This is making it difficult for rescue teams and repair workers to reach the damaged areas.
The rains have affected many areas of Himachal, but Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, and Chamba are the worst-hit districts. In Mandi alone, 310 roads are blocked and 390 transformers are not working. Kangra has 595 failed water supply schemes, which is the highest in the state. Kullu has 33 blocked roads and 111 transformers not working, while Chamba has 39 roads and 214 transformers down.
Death toll rises to 125
Since the monsoon started on June 20, the total death count has reached 125. Out of these, 70 people died in rain-related incidents like landslides, flash floods, electrocution, and house collapses. The remaining 55 people died in road accidents, which have increased because of slippery roads and poor visibility.
On July 20 alone, six more people died in road accidents—one in Hamirpur, two in Kangra, and three in Shimla.
Restoration work is on, but rain is making it difficult
The SDMA said that the Public Works, Jal Shakti, and Power departments are working round-the-clock to restore services. They are clearing roads and fixing broken water and power lines. But continued rainfall is making their work slow and difficult.
Officials are warning people to be very careful. “Avoid nonessential travel, especially in vulnerable terrain,” they said. Emergency teams are ready in case the weather worsens further.
