Heavy monsoon rain has created a serious flood situation in many parts of Rajasthan. Water has flooded homes, rivers are overflowing, and normal life has been badly affected in several districts. The worst-hit areas are Kota, Pali, Jalore, and Dholpur. At least 12 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across the state.

In Jodhpur, a farmer working at his tubewell and an electricity linesman died due to electrocution. In Pali, heavy rainfall caused seasonal rivers to overflow, and schools had to remain closed for safety. In many parts of Pali city, like Ramdev Road, Sindhi Colony, Jai Nagar, Shekhawat Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, and New Pratap Nagar, people are facing heavy waterlogging.

The situation is so serious that Collector LN Mantri and Superintendent of Police Chuna Ram Jat had to use a tractor to move around and inspect the flooded colonies.

Train routes disrupted, SDRF called in for rescue work

Train services in many areas have been affected due to the flooded tracks. In Jalore and Jodhpur, tracks between Marwar Junction and Luni are submerged. The Sabarmati Express, which connects Jodhpur with Ahmedabad, has been cancelled. Many trains are now running on a different route via Samdadi-Bhiladi.

In Kota, over two lakh cusecs of water were released from the Kota barrage, causing the Chambal River to overflow and flood nearby colonies. More than 10,000 people in low-lying areas are stuck in their homes due to heavy waterlogging. Seven people who went fishing in the river were swept away by the strong current—only one was rescued in time.

In Kota’s Ranpur area, a college girl riding a scooter was also swept away by floodwaters. Although the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team tried to save her, she could not be revived and was declared dead at the hospital.

The SDRF is now carrying out rescue operations in Anantpur, Ranpur, Devli Arab, and Kotilya Nagar, where over 150 people have already been moved to safer areas by rescue boats. Teams have also been placed in other high-risk districts.

Dholpur, other areas on high alert

In Dholpur, heavy rainfall of 426 mm caused the Parvati River to overflow, cutting off roads to more than a dozen villages. Three people were washed away in the Naripura and Santnagar areas.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has asked all district collectors to stay on high alert. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Pali, Kota, Jodhpur, Chittorgarh, Nagaur, and Ajmer, warning of more heavy rain. An orange alert is also in place for Bhilwara, Sirohi, Baran, Tonk, and Bundi for the next 48 hours.
