On Tuesday morning, parts of Delhi-NCR faced heavy rainfall. Due to this, a red alert was issued in most areas of the city. The red alert was active for three hours from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Airlines issued warnings to passengers about possible delays due to strong winds and bad weather.
The heavy rain led to waterlogging in many areas of Delhi. This caused slow traffic and made it difficult for people to move around. Pictures shared by ANI showed people walking through flooded roads, showing how much the rain affected daily life in the city.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Delhi received 8 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Tuesday. The minimum temperature was 26.8 degrees Celsius, which is slightly below the normal temperature for this time of year.
IMD also said that the weather will stay cloudy with moderate rain. The highest temperature during the day is expected to be around 30 degrees Celsius. The humidity in the air was 70 percent at 8:30 am.
Despite the rain, Delhi’s air quality was not too bad. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said that the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 87 at 9 am, which falls in the “satisfactory” category.
Flight services were also affected. Air India told its passengers:
"#TravelAdvisory: Gusty wind and rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi this morning. Please check your flight status here http://airindia.com/in/en/manage/f before heading to the airport and allow extra time for your journey."
IndiGo airline also shared an update:
"Travel Advisory: A Rainy Day Reminder - With heavy rainfall expected over #Delhi, we're seeing a chance of delays and slower traffic to and from the airport. While we can't control the skies, we're doing everything possible to keep your journey steady on the ground. Please check your flight status and consider giving yourself a little cushion of time to reach the airport. We'll keep you posted, and we're always around if you need help."
Delhi Traffic Police gave a warning to drivers due to waterlogging at Azad Market Railway Underpass on Ram Bagh Road. They said traffic was affected, and diversions were made for vehicles coming from Rani Jhansi Road, Barfkhana, Pul Mithai, and Veer Banda Bairagi Marg. People were asked to avoid the flooded roads and use different routes.
