Following an accusation of rejecting married women for jobs, the contract manufacturer for iPhones, Foxconn has decided to promote female employees to the lead position of design and technology-related roles in the company. Foxconn chairman, Young Liu, believes that women should not be limited to the assembly work he wants them to lead the team in design and technology-led segments.

Liu told PTI, "We see not only the assembly work for women but also some design, technology-related positions. A lot of our current employees are highly educated. We would like to give them more opportunity to advance their position, not just limited to assembly work."

The Taiwanese company has 48,000 employees in India. Recently the company has appointed nearly 25% married women in their new hires which takes the women employee's tally to 70% across India. Liu announced that Foxconn is on a hiring spree and is recruiting individuals without any discrimination over gender.

Other ventures of Foxconn

Earlier this month, the tech giant inaugurated a housing facility launched by the Tamil Nadu government, which will house more than 18,000 employees working for Foxconn. The company is planning to establish their second-largest mobile-manufacturing plant outside China, near Doddaballapura in Karnataka. They have planned an investment of 25,000 crore which will generate an employment opportunity for 40,000 individuals.

The Tech giants are eyeing to expand their business with a 3+3 strategy focussing on three areas, which are electric vehicles, digital health and robotics industries. They have agreed to a joint venture to establish a semiconductor plant in India. Further, they are planning to manufacture electric vehicles in India.
