The Allahabad High Court has said that while the Indian Constitution allows people to follow and share their religion, it does not allow forced or fake conversions.Justice Vinod Diwaker made this statement while rejecting a request to cancel a police case against four people. These people were accused under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021. The complaint said they tried to convert others to Christianity by giving them money and free medical help.

The court said the charges were strong enough for the police to investigate and refused to cancel the case. In its decision, the court said that Article 25 of the Constitution gives everyone the right to follow and spread their religion. But this right must follow rules about public order, health, and law. The court said the word "freely" in Article 25 means people must choose their religion on their own.

The court also said that the Constitution does not support forced or fake conversions. It does not protect actions that try to trick or pressure others in the name of religion. It further stated that certain limits are needed to make sure that religious freedom does not harm society or the well-being of people and communities.

Also thinking one religion is better than others assumes that it has more value. This idea goes against the principle of secularism in India. Indian secularism means giving equal respect to all religions. The state should not support or follow any one religion. Instead, it should stay neutral and treat all religions the same, said the court.Speaking about the 2021 law brought in by the Uttar Pradesh government, the court said that the law was made to protect public order, moral values, and health, in line with Article 25 of the Constitution.

The main aim of the law is to stop people from converting others from one religion to another using lies, pressure, force, promises, cheating, or marriage meant only for conversion. The law tries to stop such actions to prevent the misuse of religion, which could disturb peace in society and affect law and order.
