Former U.S. President and current Republican candidate for the 2024 election, Donald Trump, narrowly survived a second assassination attempt on Sunday. The incident took place near Trump International Florida Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, at around 2 p.m., when gunshots were heard. Secret Service agents reportedly opened fire after spotting an individual armed with an AK-style rifle in the vicinity of the Florida Golf Course. The suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, fled the scene in an SUV but was apprehended later that day.

Ryan has a criminal record, including a 2002 conviction for possessing a weapon of mass destruction, according to North Carolina Department of Adult Correction records. Authorities recovered the firearm near the golf course and are continuing to investigate the attempted attack, including any potential connections Routh may have to extremist groups or prior threats against Trump. Local law enforcement confirmed that Routh was carrying two backpacks and had a GoPro camera with him at the time of the incident, adding to the complexity of the ongoing investigation.

In a fundraising email, Trump addressed the matter head-on and reassured his supporters of his well-being. "There were gunshots in my vicinity, but I want you to hear this from me first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!" Trump said. "Before rumors get out of hand, know that I am okay. Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always appreciate your support." Currently, the inquiry is being led by the U.S. Secret Service. In a statement on X, agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi verified the "protective incident involving Trump" and assured the public that prompt steps were taken to safeguard the area. There were no reported injuries among bystanders or Secret Service agents.

This shooting is the second attempt on Trump's life in recent months, and it happened just two months after another attempt at assassination during a campaign rally. Elections in November 2024 are approaching, increasing tension surrounding Trump's campaign. Trump reiterates his tenacity and resolve to continue his presidential campaign despite the dangers while the investigations are ongoing. His fans, who have stuck by him through an increasingly turbulent campaign season, are probably going to get even more energized by the episode.
