The Tirupati Temple is set to become India’s first religious institution to use artificial intelligence (AI) to manage the massive influx of devotees. With millions visiting the sacred hill shrine each year, temple authorities aim to improve safety, monitor crowd movement, and ensure a smoother experience for everyone.

According to NDTV, the temple will soon get a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence-Integrated Command Control Centre (ICC), which is expected to transform crowd management and enhance services for pilgrims.

Reports say Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the AI-integrated Command Control Centre at the Vaikuntham-1 Complex on Thursday. The system will provide real-time data and insights to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials to help them manage the huge crowds efficiently.

How AI will help pilgrims

The AI-powered system is designed to make darshan and crowd management easier. Cameras with facial recognition technology will track the number of pilgrims in queues and estimate waiting times for darshan. This will allow officials to manage the flow of devotees better and prevent congestion.

In addition, the AI cameras will help in case of accidents or other untoward incidents. The system will also generate 3D maps to show ground-level conditions in real time. This will allow officials to quickly identify crowded areas and take preventive measures.

The AI initiative has been in development for several months and is expected to greatly assist TTD officials in handling the temple’s daily footfall. Experts say this first-of-its-kind project in India could set a benchmark for other religious institutions managing large gatherings.
