A woman and her son in Gurugram had a scary experience during a cab ride. The driver, who worked for BluSmart, pointed a gun at them and forced the woman to transfer ₹55,000 to his account. This happened on Friday, and the police have arrested the driver, Sonu Singh.

The woman and her son took a cab from Airia Mall in Gurugram to their home in Sector 86. When they were near Sector 83, the driver stopped the car, pointed a gun at them, and asked for money. He made the woman send ₹55,000 to his account using a UPI app, took her bag, and told them to get out of the car before driving off.

The police quickly handled the case and caught the driver within 24 hours. The driver, Sonu Singh, is from Uttar Pradesh and was staying in Gurugram as a tenant. A police officer said, “The recovery (of money) will be made after interrogating the accused.”

BluSmart responds to the incident

BluSmart, the cab service involved, expressed deep regret and promised to enhance safety measures. In its statement, the company said, "The safety and security of our riders is our utmost priority. Despite our stringent onboarding processes, including mandatory background checks, face-to-face interviews, and facial recognition, this unfortunate incident highlights the need for constant vigilance and improvement."

The company said their proper records and quick action helped the police catch the driver quickly. They also promised to improve safety by giving drivers more training and using better technology to stop such incidents from happening again.

Anmol Singh Jaggi, co-founder of BluSmart, expressed his disappointment over the event, stating, "Safety is our foundation: robust background checks, facial recognition, safety helplines, and more. Immediate steps: enhanced driver training & strengthened safety protocols. Your safety is our priority. Always."

BluSmart promised to fully support the family involved and said they are committed to ensuring every ride is safe and secure. This incident has made people worry about the safety of app-based cabs and shown the importance of constantly improving security for passengers.
