A family from Jharkhand believes they have found their lost loved one after 27 years of search. Gangasagar Yadav, who had mysteriously gone missing in 1998, was seen recently at the on-going Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj.

Gangasagar Yadav, who is now 65 years old, lives under the name of Baba Rajkumar. Years of seclusion have characterized his transformation into a revered Aghori monk. A simple man from Jharkhand, husband to Dhanwa Devi, and father of two children, Gangasagar's life never remained the same after he disappeared during a trip to Patna in 1998. His disappearance really devastated the family, who, despite the passage of time, never gave up hope of finding him.

Yet strangely, the man who is now known as Baba Rajkumar has denied his past claiming to be a Sadhu from Varanasi, and rejected any association with Gangasagar.

A long-awaited break came when one of the family members, attending the Kumbh Mela, spotted a man who strongly resembled Gangasagar. Shocked by the resemblance, the relative took a photo of the man and sent it to the family.

Murli Yadav, Gangasagar’s younger brother, recalled the moment: “Over the years, we lost hope of ever seeing him again until one of our relatives attending the Kumbh Mela noticed a man resembling Gangasagar and took his photograph. The photo was sent to us and I, along with Dhanwa Devi and their two sons, rushed to the Kumbh Mela, determined to bring him back.”

Once at the Mela, the family confronted the man, who they strongly believe is Gangasagar. However, Baba Rajkumar, alongside his companion, Sadhvi, rejected their claims. He refused to acknowledge any ties to his past life as Gangasagar Yadav and maintained that he was merely a Sadhu from Varanasi, unrelated to the family that had been searching for him all these years.

The family refused to believe him. They cited specific physical features that they claim separate the man from anyone else: long teeth, a notable forehead injury, and a distinct scar on his knee. According to them, these characteristics prove that he is Gangasagar.

Finally fed up with everything, the family resolved to send their claims and complaints to Kumbh Mela police while asking for the DNA test from the man claiming to be the same Gangasagar. This is what Yadav said. “We will wait until the end of the Kumbh Mela and, if necessary, insist on a DNA test. If the test doesn't match, we will issue an apology to Baba Rajkumar.”

Gangasagar's disappearance had a deep effect on his family. His young wife, Dhanwa Devi, was left to raise their children, Kamlesh and Vimlesh, on her own. At the time of Gangasagar's disappearance, Kamlesh was only two years old, and Vimlesh was yet to be born. The emotional toll on the family was immense, and for years they clung to the hope of finding him, despite the painful uncertainty.

Still, as the search continues, the family is all set to face the law if the DNA test confirms that the man they found at Kumbh Mela is indeed their lost relative.
