The Election Commission of India on Friday announced the schedule for the assembly elections that will be held in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.

The terms of these states’ assemblies will come to an end in May and June. However, President’s Rule has been imposed in Puducherry after the V Narayanasamy-led Congress government failed to win the trust vote earlier this week.

Voting will take place for 126 seats in Assam, 234 in Tamil Nadu, 294 in West Bengal, 140 in Kerala and 30 in Puducherry. Nearly 18.68 crore electors will be eligible to vote at 2.7 lakh polling stations for 824 seats in five assembly elections

Tamil Nadu (1 Phase):

Date of Polling - April 6

West Bengal (8 Phases):

First phase: March 27
Second phase: April 1
Third phase: April 6
Fourth phase: April 10
Fifth phase: April 17 
Sixth phase: April 22
Seventh phase: April 26
Eighth phase: April 29

Kerala (1 Phase):

Date of polling: April 6

Assam (3 Phases):

First phase - 27 March
Second phase - April 1  
Third phase - April 6

Puducherry (1 Phase):

Date of polling: April 6

Everyone on election duty for the upcoming polls for five assemblies will be vaccinated against COVID-19 before polling day, the Election Commission said on Friday.

The expenditure limit for Puducherry will be ₹22 lakh per constituency and rest of the states will be ₹30.8 lakh while the Model Code of Conduct to come into force immediately after the announcement of the election dates said Sunil Arora, Chief Election Commissioner.
