A survey called the Ipsos Trustworthiness Index 2024 found that doctors, teachers, and armed forces personnel are the most trusted professionals in India. The survey included 23,530 adults from 32 countries, and 2,200 of them were from India.
High trust in frontline professions
People living in Indian cities trust doctors (57%), armed forces personnel (56%), and teachers (56%) the most. These professions gained respect for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic and their continued efforts to help others. Other trusted jobs in India are scientists (54%), judges (52%), and bankers (50%).
Around the world, people trust doctors (58%), scientists (56%), and teachers (54%) the most. The survey showed that jobs focused on helping others and sharing knowledge are respected in many countries.
Politicians and clergy least trusted
In India, politicians (31%), government ministers (28%), and priests (27%) are the least trusted. Many people have lost faith in them due to corruption and unethical behavior.
People also trust the police (28%), advertising executives (25%), and TV news anchors (25%) less. This shows that many are becoming more doubtful about those in authority and the media.
Around the world, people trust politicians even less than in India. In countries like Colombia (74%), Chile (73%), and Argentina (73%), most people do not trust them. Social media influencers (56%) and government ministers (50%) are also not trusted by many people globally.
The results show that people trust jobs that serve the public, like doctors and teachers, more than those in positions of authority, like politicians. This reveals a big difference in how people view these roles.
