A 20-year-old man in Delhi swallowed a shaving razor after a fight with his father. He was struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts, and his father also faced mental health challenges. The razor was swallowed in two parts the blade holder, which got stuck in his stomach, and the handle, which moved to his large intestine.
Doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital stepped in to save his life. Led by Dr. Tarun Mittal, the team performed a two-step surgery. First, they opened his stomach to remove the blade holder. Then, they carefully pushed the handle through his intestine and removed it with a special tool.
Dr. Mittal explained that this was a difficult case because it involved both a dangerous object and the patient’s emotional health. He emphasized the importance of addressing mental health issues early.
The man has recovered physically and is now receiving counseling for his depression. His family is also planning to seek help for his father’s mental health issues. His mother expressed her gratitude to the doctors for saving his life.
