Deep Sidhu, an actor-activist, was granted bail on Monday, 26th April 2021, by a Delhi court. He was earlier arrested under the complaint filed by the Archaeological Survey of India for damage and vandalism caused to the Red Fort during the tractor rally on Republic Day.

The actor was first arrested on 9th February, days after the violence occurred on Republic day. After he was given bail, he again was arrested on 17th April under ASI FIR.

According to Live Law’s report, Magistrate Sahil Gupta granted assistance to him on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 with a guarantee of the same or like amount. He told him to help the police with the investigation when required.

The court had rejected the plea of the police to detain Sidhu for 4 days. In contrast to that, the court sent him under judicial custody for 14 days.

The judge said that the continued imprisonment of Sidhu is unacceptable and will not lead to any kind of development. He had been interrogated in the custody of the police for 14 days. When he was granted regular bail by Ld. ASJ (learned additional sessions judge), he had already spent 70 days in prison. “It is quite irrational on the part of the police force to further restrain the accused”, the court says.

The court also added that the investigative authorities’ action was brutal and malicious. Their fraudulent acts with established criminal processes show that they have little or no respect towards the Constitution of India which protects all its citizens in the form of rights.

Many politicians have celebrated his release. Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa congratulated him and tweeted that it is a big victory for the farmer’s movement. He further commended this moment by welcoming him to Gurudwara Rakab Ganj and paying his respect to the lord.

But on the other hand, many farmer’s unions are in fact angry with him after the Red Fort incident.  They condemn his action for the vandalism but at the same time, his support is invaluable as he is a social media influencer.
