In India's Jammu and Kashmir, more than 500 properties have been taken by different government agencies as part of the security forces' all-out offensive against terror groups, networks, and funding. According to the Indian government, terrorism in the Valley would cease if the terror ecosystem is destroyed.
The Jammu and Kashmir government claims that more than 500 properties owned by OGWs, terrorists, and those who support terrorism have been seized by the National Investigative Agency (NIA), State Investigative Agency (SIA), State Investigation Unit (SIU), Enforcement Directorate (ED), and Jammu and Kashmir Police's Crime Branch. Hundreds of crores' worth of properties have been taken from various Jammu and Kashmir areas.
The administration of Jammu and Kashmir reports that the Indian government has included some 4,200 terrorists who reside in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on a list of "proclaimed offenders," and that their assets are now being attached.
A roster of about 4,200 terrorists who have resided in PoK over the past thirty years has already been sent to the inspector general of registrations and revenue. Most certainly, the revenue department would be taking possession of the properties and making sure that no one purchased or sold them. Recently, the Jammu and Kashmir Police also seized the belongings of those who had been found guilty of willfully giving terrorists sanctuary.
“Those who are involved in the terror activities, and who are a part of the terror ecosystem, those people who make lavish houses, gather huge money, and have bought properties in Dubai, London and Delhi. Those involved in terror financing, we will have to take action against them. Those who have made terror a business will be dealt with strictly with seizing of their properties,” said DGP R R Swain.
Along with seizing Hurriyat's headquarters, government officials have also taken control of the belongings of separatist leaders including as Shabbir Shah, Asiya Andrabi, and Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The belongings of Saeed Salauddin, the leader of the United Jihad Council, and his son were also seized. Seized has also been the home of terrorist Mushtaq Zargar, who was let free in return for the IC-814 passengers.
