As per a report from the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), N Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has emerged as the wealthiest among Indian Chief Ministers, with assets of Rs 931 crore. On the other hand, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the least affluent, declaring assets of just Rs 15 lakh.
The ADR report, published on Monday, analyzed the declared assets of 31 Chief Ministers from state assemblies and Union territories. It found that the average asset value of these leaders stands at Rs 52.59 crore, with two of them (6%) being billionaires.
The report also pointed out the significant gap between the average income of a Chief Minister and India's per capita net national income (NNI) for 2023-2024. While the NNI was around Rs 1,85,854, the average income of a CM stood at Rs 13,64,310 which is 7.3 times greater than the national average.
Among the wealthiest Chief Ministers, N Chandrababu Naidu tops the list with assets worth Rs 931 crore, followed by Pema Khandu, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, with Rs 332 crore, and Siddaramaiah, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, with Rs 51 crore. Other prominent figures in the top tier include Neiphiu Rio, the chief minister of Nagaland, with Rs 46 crore, and Mohan Yadav, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, with Rs 42 crore.
On the other hand, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, has the least assets, totalling just Rs 15 lakh. She is followed by former Jammu & Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah with Rs 55 lakh, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan with Rs 1.18 crore, Delhi CM Atishi with Rs 1.41 crore, and Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma with Rs 1.46 crore.
