In a recent case, a man named Maayank Tiwari has been arrested for posing as a high-ranking official from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). He tried to pressure 'Dr Agarwal's,' a chain of eye hospitals, into forgiving over Rs 16 crore owed to them by an Indore-based hospital. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting searches to locate and apprehend him, with raids taking place at various locations connected to the accused in Vadodara.
Mr. Tiwari claimed to hold the position of a director in government advisory and used this false identity to collect large sums of money by either threatening individuals or invoking the PMO's name to "settle disputes." He allegedly sent threatening messages and made calls from his mobile phone to the promoters of 'Dr Agarwal's.'
The whole issue revolves around an agreement between 'Dr Agarwal's' and two doctors who operated the Indore-based hospital. 'Dr Agarwal's' paid more than Rs 16 crore to these doctors to become a franchisee. However, it is claimed that the Indore hospital violated the terms of the agreement, leading to a dispute. 'Dr Agarwal's' then sought a refund of their money and the termination of the agreement. The matter was taken to the High Court, which appointed an arbitrator to mediate. The arbitrator issued an interim injunction, ordering the Indore-based hospital to deposit Rs 16.43 crore within four weeks.
During this dispute, the promoters of 'Dr Agarwal's' received messages and calls from Mr. Tiwari, who urged them to forgive the alleged dues and resolve the issue with the doctors from the Indore hospital. Upon learning about this, the Prime Minister's Office took immediate action and requested the CBI to investigate the impersonation of a PMO official.
The PMO made it clear that Mr. Tiwari's actions were a case of impersonation and the misuse of the PMO's name. They emphasized that neither Mr. Tiwari nor the position he claimed to hold existed within their office. Consequently, Tiwari was arrested on Tuesday in Vadodara.
