Downsized from heiress to hustler, “bae” discovers her most valuable assets aren’t diamonds or money but her street-smart style. This comedy-drama was created by Ishita Moitra, Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair, and directed by Colin D’Cunha. Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, the series features Ananya Panday in the lead role, with an ensemble cast including Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, and others. It premiered on Amazon Prime on September 6, 2024.

This series tracks Bae, a high-society darling who crashes from her glittering pedestal into the gritty reality of the real world. What unfolds is a classic fish-out-of-water tale, but with a sparkle that keeps it engaging and fresh. The charm of “Bae” lies in its blend of sharp wit and genuine warmth. Mixed Performances in Call Me Bae: A Disappointing Finale

While Bae’s fashion choices might be straight out of a Gen-Z dream and certainly slay with every scene, they do flirt with impracticality. 

The refreshingly bold fashion choices add a layer of fun and fantasy that keeps the show’s tone lively and entertaining. It’s a stylish nod to high fashion that feels just as charming and over-the-top as its protagonist. If you’re a fan of bold, KJO-esque outfits and a good dose of humor, “Call Me Bae” offers a delightful fashion feast that’s sure to brighten your day. 

‘Call Me Bae’ goes beyond its dazzling wardrobe to explore themes of personal growth and authenticity. Bae’s journey from a superficial heiress to a grounded individual is delivered with a blend of humor and sincerity that resonates deeply, but falls short in several areas. Heavily inspired by ‘Emily in Paris’ and ‘Schitt’s Creek’, the show’s finale lacks suspense, and the friendships feel superficial. Neil N’s role is disappointing, with weak chemistry and an underdeveloped character, while Ananya’s husband delivers a stronger, more emotional performance. Vir Das’s character had potential for a dramatic twist, but the plot fizzles. It misses opportunities to truly captivate and innovate to a certain level.
