In honor of Dussehra, actor Kangana Ranaut gave a Ravan Dahan performance at the renowned Lav Kush Ramleela in New Delhi. According to Arjun Singh, head of the Delhi-based Lav Kush Ramleela Committee, this was the first time a woman has ever shot an arrow to ignite the demon king's effigy in the event's fifty-year history, which is hosted yearly at the Red Fort.
Actress Kangana Ranaut, a multiple National Award winner, retaliated against BJP politician and former MP Subramanian Swamy, who questioned the actor's attendance as the top guest at this year's Red Fort Ramlila event. In response to a tweet on X (previously Twitter) featuring Kangana Ranaut in a bikini from one of her movies, Subramanian Swamy posted the remarks. When Swamy responded to a user who published Kangana's photo in a bikini, Kangana questioned the post. Kangana said that Swamy was being made to "sound like a pervert" by "deep rooted sexism and dormant lust for female body."
The argument erupted when Swamy confronted Kangana, who was invited as the principal guest to the Lav Kush Ramleela, and asked her questions. "According to SPG gossip she (Kangana) is a 'frequent flyer'. Why should SPG gossip? Because of the organisation is overworked. Her being made chief guest in the Ramlila final day is the organisation’s conduct unbecoming of respect for Maryada Purushottam," Swamy wrote in a tweet.
In response, Kangana wrote a lengthy essay claiming that Swamy was "suggesting that I (Kangana) have nothing else to offer except for my flesh to get my way in politics."
"Had there been a young male mavrick instead of me who could possibly be a great future leader and deserving of guidance and mentorship would you still imply that he is probably selling his flesh to get his way in politics?" Kangana asked, wondering if Swamy would have said the same things for a male star or creative artist.
On Tuesday, October 24, Ranaut made some history by becoming the first woman to perform the Ravan Dahan at the renowned Lav Kush Ramleela in New Delhi. This was the first time a woman used an arrow to light up the effigy of the demon king, Ravan, at the yearly celebration held at the Red Fort.
According to Singh, the committee made its judgment with recognition for the Women's Reservation Bill, which was approved by the Parliament just a month ago. Every year, a VIP, whether a politician or a movie celebrity, graces our event. Former President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have previously performed the honours. John Abraham and Ajay Devgn, two famous actors, were present. Prabhas completed the Ravan Dahan last year. For the first time in our event's 50-year history, a woman will perform the Ravan Dahan, he told PTI.
He stated that we must eradicate narrow-mindedness in order to bring about equality. "Now, a lady has the ability to destroy evil and set fire to Ravan's effigy. This liberty should extend to women as well. And for that reason, Singh said, we decided on Kangana ji for the same.
The Women Reservation Bill aims to ensure that women would hold 33 percent of seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures.
In the meantime, Kangana is working hard to get ready for the premiere of Tejas, the movie in which she plays Air Force pilot Tejas Gill. On October 26, the movie will be released on large screens.
Kangana will also be featured in Emergency, where she plays Indira Gandhi, a former Indian prime minister. Not only does she play the starring part, but she also directed the movie. In addition, Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudry, Satish Kaushik, Milind Soman, and Shreyas Talpade feature in Emergency. The release date is set for November 24, 2023.
