The Indian Air Force on Tuesday successfully tested Aarogya Maitri Cubes, (the world’s first disaster hospital packed in 72 cubes) against air drop for the first time. The test was conducted in Agra. The project is developed under the Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri (BHISHM), aimed at responding to emergency situations worldwide, regardless of location or timing.
It is packed with tools that can provide disaster response and medical support in emergencies, it can be deployed in just 12 minutes. The cube is designed to combine artificial intelligence and data analytics for effective coordination, real-time monitoring, and efficient management of medical services in the field.
According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Arogya Maitri cubes are a part of the broader initiative named "Project BHISHM" which is created in such a way that it can treat up to 200 casualties, with rapid response and comprehensive care being its priority.

The whole unit is a combination of 72 easily transportable cubes that can be comfortably carried by hand, cycle, or even drone, providing unmatched flexibility. These cubes are robust, waterproof, and light, making them preferable for any emergency situations.
In February 2022, the commencement of project Bhishma was announced which led to the formation of a task force by the Ministry of Defence. The Aarogya Maitri initiative was unveiled by PM Modi, during the Global South Summit in January 2023. The initiative is aimed at providing vital medical provisions to any developing nation impacted by natural calamities or humanitarian emergencies.
