An Air India flight going from Mumbai to New York was diverted to Delhi because the airline received a bomb threat. The flight, number AI119, left Mumbai at about 2 am but was soon sent to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, where it landed safely.
The authorities are taking all the needed safety steps to protect the passengers and crew. A senior police officer said, "The plane is now at Indira Gandhi International Airport, and all the usual safety checks are being carefully done."
The passengers got off the plane safely, and the airline is trying to reduce any trouble caused by the change in plans. An Air India spokesperson said that the flight got a special security warning and was sent to Delhi because the government’s security team instructed them to. Right now, the passengers are at the Delhi airport, and Air India is making sure they are comfortable during the unexpected delay.
Bomb threat message received on X
Sources say that officials at Mumbai airport got a bomb threat message through X about the flight going to New York. When they got the warning, the Mumbai airport security quickly told the Delhi airport security, and they decided to send the plane to Delhi.
Air India told the public that keeping everyone safe is their most important job. In their official message, they apologized for the trouble caused but stressed that acting quickly was important to keep everyone on the plane safe.
Another incident days earlier involving an Air India Express flight
This bomb threat happened soon after another safety issue a few days earlier. On Friday, an Air India Express flight going from Tiruchirappalli to Sharjah had a technical problem right after it took off. The problem was with the plane's hydraulic systems, which made the landing gear not work properly.
The plane flew in circles several times to use up fuel and reduce its weight as a safety measure before landing safely back in Tiruchirappalli. Many people, including Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister MK Stalin, praised the pilots and crew for keeping the 141 passengers safe.
An Air India Express spokesperson said that they are looking into the technical problem, and they arranged a different plane so the passengers could continue their trip. The airline apologized for the trouble but repeated that keeping passengers safe is their top priority.
