The European Union (EU) has announced a substantial financial aid package of €250,000 (equivalent to over ₹2.26 crore) to assist victims impacted by a severe hailstorm and heavy rain , Manipur India.

This aid, facilitated through the European Union humanitarian partner, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), aims to benefit more than 1,500 of the most vulnerable families in the region.

The disaster struck on May 5, 2024, with a severe hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain causing extensive damage to over 48,000 houses, infrastructure projects, and agricultural lands and crops across 16 districts in Manipur. The storm, lasting merely 15 minutes, brought hailstones measuring four to five inches, leading to major flooding in urban areas and widespread power outages.

The primary goal of the aid is to support those most severely affected by the storm, focusing on essential aspects such as food distribution to ensure affected families have access to necessary supplies and providing emergency shelter kits to aid in rebuilding homes damaged by the disaster.

This financial assistance plays a crucial role in providing relief and aiding in the recovery process for communities grappling with the immediate impact on their livelihoods and homes. It underscores the European Union commitment to humanitarian assistance globally, reflecting European solidarity with those in need.
