The Jammu and Kashmir Police Department has launched an innovative AI-Based Facial Recognition System in Kishtwar, marking a significant milestone in the region's law enforcement capabilities.
SSP Kishtwar Khalil Poswal and Addl. SP Kishtwar Rajinder Singh successfully activated and trialed an innovative AI-Based Facial Recognition System at Morden Naka Drabshalla in this district on Tuesday.
SSP Poswal told reporters that the cutting-edge technology is designed to quickly identify and trace those involved in criminal activities ranging from terrorists, Over Ground Workers (OGWs), absconders, and history sheeters to thieves and drug peddlers.
"The AI-based facial recognition system is tailored to swiftly identify and track individuals involved in various criminal activities, ranging from terrorists and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) to absconders, history sheeters, thieves, and drug peddlers," the official stated.
Use of technology to transform public safety
According to the SSP, the goal of this strategic project is to transform the policing environment by harnessing new technologies for more effective criminal detection and public safety.
"After recognizing the accused person, there will be an alarm in the computer, and then the same person can be arrested or detained. Even if the person is wearing a face mask, the system can easily identify them,” he claimed.
SSP Poswal also revealed intentions to duplicate similar AI-based solutions throughout the district.
He also stated that photos of active terrorists will be added into the system to prevent any significant terror attacks in the district. According to SSP, the system gives a thorough background with full details of crimes and other essential information.
"The operationalization of this cutting-edge system marks a pivotal moment in the region's commitment to ensuring public safety and effectively combating crime," he stated.
He also emphasized the importance of the AI-based face recognition technology in quickly finding and apprehending those with a criminal past.
"The system's ability to identify various threats, from terrorism to local crime, is anticipated to play a crucial role in maintaining law and order within the community," he said.
According to SSP Poswal, this project is in line with the larger objective of smart policing, and the AI-Based Facial Recognition System is an essential component of current law enforcement procedures.
"By harnessing this advanced technology, law enforcement agencies aim not only to track down criminals more effectively but also to contribute to the broader framework of intelligent and proactive policing," he went on to say.
Another officer stated that this strategic decision illustrates the department's dedication to using new solutions to ensure public safety while adhering to the principles of smart, technology-driven law enforcement. "The implementation of the AI-Based Facial Recognition System stands as a testament to the region's dedication to embracing cutting-edge technologies in the relentless pursuit of a safer and more secure community," he concluded.
