Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, unveiled a 108-foot statue of the Hindu saint Adi Shankaracharya . The statue is built in Omkareshwar, a temple town that is home to one of Lord Shiva's 12 Jyotirlingas.
According to a news report, MP CM Chouhan said it is a historic occasion and noted that although Adi Shankaracharya was born in modern-day Kerala, he reached enlightenment at Omkareshwar while journeying through forests and mountains. The 108-foot-tall sculpture is known as "Ekatmata Ki Pratima" (Statue of Oneness).
All about the Grand Structure
- The multi-metal towering structure is perched atop the picturesque Mandhata hill on the banks of the Narmada River in Omkareshwar.
- Under the direction of the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) and Acharya Shankar Sanskritik Ekta Nyas, a tall edifice was conceptualized.
- The philosopher's bronze alloy is set atop a 75-foot-tall concrete pedestal.
- The monument is located in a religious town that is also home to one of Lord Shiva's 12 jyotirlingas.
- A museum showcasing the lifetime of Adi Shankaracharya is also proposed at the site.
- A large number of Hindu priests and saints have already gathered in the temple town during the past few days and are carrying out religious rituals, including ‘yajnas’.
- On this occasion, religious publications will also be published in addition to the presentation of the structure.
- The big structure was set to be unveiled by Chouhan on September 18, but the event was postponed due to heavy rains in the area, an official stated.
- The project has been made at a total budget of Rs 2,141.85 crore.
- In this statue, Adi Shankaracharya is depicted as 12-year-old Aacharya Shankar because he attained knowledge at this age.
- The statue of Adi Shankaracharya has been named the Statue of Oneness.
