Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has announced that the company is building a ropeway to make it easier for pilgrims to visit Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand. The ropeway will connect Sonprayag to Kedarnath and will be a major relief for devotees who currently have to trek for nearly nine hours to reach the temple.

The total cost of the project is Rs 4,081 crore. Once the ropeway becomes operational, the travel time will be reduced to just 36 minutes. This will make the journey not only faster but also much safer, especially for elderly and physically weak pilgrims.

Gautam Adani shared the news on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He said that the Adani Group is proud to be part of this sacred initiative. “The difficult climb to Kedarnath Dham will now become easier. May Mahadev bless everyone. Jai Baba Kedarnath!” he wrote.

This is the first ropeway project undertaken by Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL). The company received the official approval, known as the Letter of Award (LoA), from the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML) in September. The project will be handled by AEL’s Roads, Metro, Rail, and Water division.

The ropeway will have the capacity to transport 1,800 passengers per hour in each direction. This means that lakhs of devotees will be able to travel comfortably every year without facing long queues or physical hardships.

The project is part of the National Ropeways Development Programme called “Parvatmala Pariyojana”. It is being developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Construction is expected to take six years, and after completion, the Adani Group will operate the ropeway for 29 years.

Besides improving connectivity, the ropeway will also boost tourism and generate employment for local residents. Hotels, shops, and transport services in the surrounding areas are likely to benefit from the increased footfall.

Gautam Adani had earlier described the ropeway as “a bridge between devotion and modern infrastructure”. He said that by making this holy journey smooth and accessible, the project will not only serve pilgrims but also help in the overall development of Uttarakhand. Once completed, the Kedarnath ropeway will be one of the longest in India and a major milestone in religious tourism infrastructure.
