Separate incident
In a separate incident in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district, a 60-year-old Dalit woman with a disability was also allegedly raped and robbed. The incident took place in Dandeli when the woman was walking to a relative’s house. A man, later identified as 23-year-old Fairoz Yasin Yaragatti, allegedly abducted and assaulted her. She later reported the matter to the police. During the investigation, police showed her photos of several suspects, and she identified Yaragatti.
Yaragatti, a resident of Bailpar in Dandeli, has a record of past criminal activities, including cases related to illegal liquor trade, drug peddling, and assaulting police personnel. He was working as a driver and sand transporter. When the police tried to arrest him, he reportedly tried to escape and attacked the officers. He was then shot in the leg by police during an encounter and taken into custody. Investigations into both cases are ongoing, and police are searching for all those involved.
