An Uber driver from North Carolina, USA, who is 70 years old, just revealed his unusual retirement income strategy. He disclosed that he had canceled over 30% of the rides and approved fewer than 10% of the requests for rides, as opposed to approving the majority of them.
He was choosy because he wanted to make the most use of his time, therefore he only answered requests that he thought were important. He was able to make $28,000 (about Rs 22 lakh at the average exchange rate for 2022) last year by canceling around 1,500 trips.
Earlier, the man would work 40 hours a week but due to the reduction in surge, the time had now come down to 30 hours a week now.
"I spend a lot of time saying no," he clarified. I only work when there is a spike."
The Uber driver used particular tactics in order to increase his profits. On Fridays and Saturdays, he would position himself in popular places like clubs and airports between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. He also refrained from going on "one-way rides." He related an incident in which he drove a client for about two hours, traveling a considerable distance, and was paid only $27 (around Rs 2,246).
The man stuck to his plan despite the fact that it involves some risk because Uber forbids drivers from declining or canceling rides based only on the destination. He made it clear that he doesn't drive for financial gain but rather for pleasure, saying, "I drive to get out." I adore it.
