Today, the National Defence Academy (NDA) saw a historic moment as the first batch of 17 female cadets graduated. They marched proudly alongside more than 300 male cadets during the Passing Out Parade.
These women joined the NDA in 2022 after the Supreme Court allowed women to enter the tri-services academy.
At the event, General Singh unveiled a special magazine called 'Breaking Barriers: Female Cadets'. This magazine tells the story of these women, their challenges, and their successes.
This marks an important step in changing military education and opening new opportunities for women in the armed forces.
About the National Defence Academy (NDA)
The National Defence Academy (NDA) is a training school where future officers of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force learn together before moving to their own service training centres. It is located in Pune, Maharashtra, and is the first academy in the world to train all three forces together.
NDA has many famous alumni, including 3 Param Vir Chakra and 11 Ashoka Chakra winners, and has produced 32 top military chiefs. In 2019, all three chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force were from the same NDA batch. Since 2021, women are allowed to take the NDA entrance exam.
