In Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, a unique group of leaders is making a substantial result. All alumni of the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), are bringing their top-notch education and expertise to transform the district.

Shashank Mani Tripathi a Member of Parliament for Deoria graduated from IIT Delhi and holds an MBA from Switzerland. Tripathi highlights the value of his education in developing intellect and a commitment to hard work. "At IIT, besides developing intellect, it teaches us commitment to work hard and bring innovative solutions to problems. One should remember that the intellect of a person from a non-scientific background is equally important for the development of any constituency, district, or state," he mentions.

From Engineering to Administration

Divya Mittal serving as the district magistrate. An IIT Delhi graduate with a postgraduate degree from IIM Mumbai, Mittal finds her technical background helpful in her role. "Knowledge gained from IITs certainly helps in certain situations as a govt officer. For example, as an engineer, I applied my knowledge to assist in bringing water to the top of the mountain in Mirzapur while I was serving as the DM there," she states to The Times of India.

Sankalp Sharma is the Superintendent of Police in Deoria. He graduated from IIT Roorkee in chemical engineering. Sharma explains that while academic lessons might not directly apply to policing, the logical thinking developed during his studies is invaluable. "Being an engineer, I depend on logic. However, academic lessons are of less utility in policing, but experience gained in the field is immensely helpful in public service. I'm confident that fellow IITians will work in synergy for the betterment of people," he shares.

Pratyush Pandey, the Chief Development Officer, graduated in civil engineering from IIT Kanpur and holds an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. "It would be an interesting experience to work with fellow IITians in the district to bring about a change in the lives of people," Pandey said.
