On Saturday, a driver from US president Joe Biden's G20 convoy was taken into custody in Delhi. After breaking protocol, the driver took security officials into a frenzy.
Significant breach in US President Joe Biden's security
During the G20 Summit on Saturday morning, there was a significant breach in US President Joe Biden's security. A passenger was discovered being seated by the driver of the car in his convoy. When he arrived at Hotel Taj, where the UAE Crown Prince was staying, with the passenger, security personnel apprehended him. But after being questioned, the driver was let go, and the vehicle was taken away from Biden's car.
The breach occurred because the driver accepted the request from another customer instead of going to President Biden's lodging, the ITC Maurya, where the president was staying during the G20 Summit, according to later investigations. He agreed to take another traveller to the Taj Hotel because he had some free time.
When security officials pulled them up at the hotel, a businessman who just happened to be the passenger was also in the vehicle.
He further asserted that he was ignorant of the security procedures.
According to a knowledgeable insider who spoke to Indian Express, “The driver and businessman were questioned by the official of intelligence agencies and he claimed that he was unaware of the protocol and that it was wrong to go outside during security duty.”
The driver was interrogated before being let go. The vehicle was taken out of the convoy by the security guards. On Saturday, security checks were stepped up across the National Capital.
Around the Pragati Maidan region in central Delhi, where the summit is taking place, a multi-layer security cover had been put in place.
In New Delhi and the surrounding districts, vehicle inspections were increased. To keep a close eye on the security measures at the venue and throughout the entire New Delhi district, dog squad and mounted morchas with binoculars were deployed.
