The capital of India will be hosting the G20 summit on September 9 and 10. Where the world’s top leaders have arrived and the stage is set for one of the biggest global summits. The venue for the summit is the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan where leaders of the world’s biggest economies have gathered for a two-day mega summit.

What is Bharat Mandapam?

The ‘Bharat Mandapam’, the venue for the G20 summit, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 26, 2023. It was built primarily to accommodate large-scale international exhibitions, trade fairs, conventions, conferences, and other high-profile events.

Also known as the “culture corridor”, it was constructed with a cost of approximately Rs2,700 crores. The spectacular Amphitheater has 3,000 seats, which adds to its adaptability and magnificence.

  • The name ‘Bharat Mandapam’ is an inspiration from Lord Basaveshwara's concept of Anubhav Mandapam.
  • The Bharat Mandapam building's architectural style is influenced by "India's rich traditions," representing the country's confidence in its history while embracing modern conveniences and contemporary living.
  • The beautiful multi-purpose hall and plenary hall at “Bharat Mandapam” have a combined seating of seven thousand people.
  • The IECC complex is the largest MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition) destination in the country, with a campus spread over 123 acres.
  • The 29-foot-tall Nataraja bronze statue draws attention to India's rich culture and history, where singing and dancing are used to honour deities. The statue, which was built by Ashtadhatu, is about 18 tons in weight. Radhakrishnan Sthapaty, a well-known sculptor from Swami Malai in Tamil Nadu, and his team constructed it in seven months.
