An Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) graduate's LinkedIn profile is surfacing on the internet. Engineer Sanjeev Sharma has captured attention on social media with his commendable journey from a government employee to working at  Elon Musk's SpaceX. Starting his career as a mechanical engineer with Indian Railways, Sanjeev is now soaring to new heights with a significant position at SpaceX.

Sanjeev is a mechanical engineer who graduated from IIT Roorkee, and his LinkedIn profile has gone viral for good reason. Currently serving as a Principal Engineer at SpaceX, Sanjeev previously worked as an employee in the railway industry.

Who is Sanjeev Sharma

 

After graduating from IIT Roorkee, Sanjeev began his career as a Divisional Mechanical Engineer with Indian Railways. He worked in that role for four years before being promoted to Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer in 1994. He left Indian Railways after a total of 11 years of service.

In 2002, Sharma continued his education by enrolling in the University of Colorado Boulder’s one-year MS program in Mechanical Engineering. After completing his degree, he became a Staff Mechanical Engineer at Seagate Technologies in 2003. He was promoted to Senior Mechanical Engineer in 2008 and worked for an American data company for five years.

Sharma also earned an MS in Management of Technology from the University of Minnesota in 2008 while working at Seagate. After concluding his role there, he joined the American space company SpaceX, where he worked as a Dynamics Engineer.

In this position, he was responsible for overseeing structural dynamics initiatives and closely coordinating with teams in thermal, propulsion, aerodynamics, and GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control). From Falcon 9 flight F9-005 to F9-0059, he played a key role in the recovery and reusability efforts for the first-stage booster.

After working almost 6 years in SpaceX, Sharma joined Matternet Inc. as a leading developer of commercial drone delivery systems in 2018. He worked in the technology section for more than 2 years after first leading vehicle engineering. 

In  2022 Sharma rejoined SpaceX  as a Principal Engineer for Starship Dynamics and is currently Sharma living in Hawthorne, California.

Skilled in leading diverse hardware teams and designing electro-mechanical systems across various fields, including railroads, computer hard drives, reusable rockets, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
