The Pune Porsche crash case saw a major update on Tuesday, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) ruled that the 17-year-old boy accused of driving the car that killed two people will be tried as a juvenile. The decision comes over a year after the incident, which caused a wave of national anger and legal action.
The accident took place on May 19, 2024, in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar, where a speeding Porsche car allegedly driven by the teenager in an intoxicated state ran over two IT professionals, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, who were riding a two-wheeler.
Following the fatal crash, the Pune Police demanded that the teen be tried as an adult, calling the act “heinous” due to the loss of two lives and alleged attempts to tamper with evidence. However, the JJB has now decided to proceed with the trial under juvenile laws.
