The much-awaited premiere of Pushpa 2 at Sandhya Theatre, Hyderabad, turned tragic on December 4 when a stampede-like situation claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman and left her young son in critical condition. Fans had gathered in huge numbers to catch a glimpse of actor Allu Arjun, whose surprise appearance created chaos outside the venue.

Revathi, who lost her life, had gone to the premiere with her husband Bhaskar and two children, Sri Tej (9) and Sanvika (7). The family was from Dilsukhnagar but were not among the regular visitors to Sandhya Theatre on RTC Cross Roads.

Trouble started when Allu Arjun arrived at the theatre around 10:30 PM with heavy security and police protection. The crowd surged forward in a frenzy to catch a glimpse of the actor, creating a stampede-like situation. In the chaos, Revathi and her son Sri Tej fell unconscious.

They took them to Durga Bhai Deshmukh Hospital in Vidyanagar. Sadly, Revathi was declared dead when they reached, while Sri Tej, who was critically ill, was shifted to KIMS Hospital in Begumpet for better treatment. Later, Revathi's body was taken to Gandhi Mortuary.

Immediately after the screening, Allu Arjun left the venue under close security. He briefly waved at the fans from the car sunroof and asked them to clear the way for other vehicles. His appeal to calm themselves didn't help as the large crowd overwhelmed the police.

The incident has created a shadow on the grand premiere of Pushpa 2 and raised issues about crowd management at high-profile events. Such incidents will call for the authorities to reconsider security measures for such events.

Pushpa 2: The Rule is going to be the sequel of this year's blockbuster, the 2021 hit Pushpa: The Rise. It would be released on 10,000 screens worldwide in multiple languages. Initially, a 3D version was planned but later due to delays in the post-production, they eventually decided to go with 2D and 4DX formats as well.

The movie has Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles with Fahadh Faasil reprising his role. As excitement builds, ticket price hikes in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have sparked legal challenges. Despite these objections, the Telangana High Court has permitted the release to go ahead as planned.
