BookMyShow today filed a First Information Report (FIR) against ticket scalping for the much-awaited Coldplay concert. The ticket aggregator filed the FIR against an unidentified individual on October 2, 2024, against black marketing of tickets for Coldplay's "Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025" in India. The FIR was lodged under Section 66 (C) of the Information Technology Act, as well as relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.

BookMyShow said they were looking into the cancellation of tickets being sold "unethically." The company expressed its commitment to combating ticket scalping, emphasizing that the FIR was filed after they proactively alerted the Mumbai Police on September 23, 2024, about these concerns before any formal complaint was made against them. The statement also encouraged authorities to investigate unauthorized ticket reselling by individuals and online platforms.

According to the complaint, BookMyShow received emails from two individuals requesting maximum ticket bookings. These people managed to secure tickets for other people and even sent money to some to cover for them. Additionally, BookMyShow noted that they received several WhatsApp messages with similar requests, which they chose to ignore.

BookMyShow advised its customers against any third-party purchases on its very first day of selling tickets for the Coldplay concert on September 22.

The company has shared details of all identified resellers, including those selling tickets over social media. “We remain vigilant in monitoring such instances of ticket reselling for this tour through black market channels and will continue to share all relevant information with the authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken,” they added.

What about the Coldplay concert?

The Coldplay concert is set to take place in January 2025 at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.  However, that excitement was marred currently by a wave of ticketing scams, which had left many fans in a tight spot with few of them succeeding to get tickets. The dissatisfaction of many of them came out through social media as the tickets began appearing in the black market at sky-high prices, prompting the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) to investigate.

Coldplay will perform on January 18, 19, and 21 as part of their tour. Earlier this week, the Mumbai Police recorded the statement of Anil Makhija, BookMyShow's Chief Operating Officer, concerning the ongoing investigation.

BookMyShow reassured fans that Coldplay’s concerts in India will proceed as scheduled, stating, “Reports contrary to this are factually incorrect.”
