Theaters roll out ₹99 tickets for latest movies, premium seats excluded

Both multiplexes and single-screen theaters are offering tickets priced at ₹99 on May 31.

Cinema Halls are giving significant discounts on movie tickets on the occasion of “Cinema Lovers Day” to be seen on 31st May.

Both multiplexes and single-screen theatres are offering tickets priced at ₹99 on that day.

Top multiplex chains like PVR, Cinepolis, INOX, Miraj Cinemas, Multa A2, and MovieMax are set to join this campaign.

The head of the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and CEO of PVR Inox Pictures, Kamal Gianchandani said, “It is a widespread initiative with a total of 4,000 screens where movie tickets will be available for ₹99 each. However, premium formats like recliners are excluded but 90-95 percent of seats will be available for ₹99. A lot of single screens will be participating, including those in the South. Many single screens will offer tickets for prices lower than ₹99, which could go to as low as ₹70.”

“It is just for a day and, so, it won’t make a big difference (at the box office) in the overall picture, but it will give an impetus to the box office as we kick start the holiday season. It is a new holiday season for us with films jostling for dates starting June. A lot of clashes are expected as many producers did not release films in April and May (due to elections),” he added.

If you want to take advantage of this offer, follow these steps :

  1. Go to the official PVR or INOX websites.
  2. Select your movie and preferred showtime
  3. Complete the booking process by paying Rs. 99

This offer does not include premium services such as IMAX and recliners. To avail of these facilities, you will need to pay the regular ticket price.

More people are expected to show up on Cinema Lovers Day. This special day comes after a not-so-good March quarter for the cinema industry. Moreover, there weren’t many exciting movies in Hindi and other languages, and there were only a few Hollywood releases during this period.

The ongoing General Election has also affected the current quarter, slowing down the release of new movies. However, from June onwards, a high volume of movies is anticipated. This should bring more people to the theatres and push the stagnant cinema market.

Also the ₹99 ticket price doesn’t include convenience fees or GST. The extra charges are subject to the platform used for booking.
