Takeshi's Castle, a renowned 90s TV game show, is returning as a web series, and actor and YouTuber Bhuvan Bam will be giving the commentary this time. The renowned Japanese game show will be rebooted in India, according to a recent announcement from Amazon Prime Video. The online platform will soon offer streaming for the eight-episode series.
Bhuvan Bam exclaimed, “Since the original version of Takeshi’s Castle was on television, I have been an ardent fan of the concept, execution and the hilarity of the game-show. It’s highly nostalgic for me to have grown up seeing the show and now voicing it, is genuinely a full circle moment. I don’t think there is any one in my generation who hasn’t loved and enjoyed this madcap comedy. Being a part of this incredible game-show is a privilege and an honor.
As an entertainer, my viewers have always appreciated the unique yet relatable characters that I’ve portrayed, and I happy to bring a bit of my creative self as ‘Titu Mama’. I am hopeful that the younger generation will get love this show as much as we did.”
The 2023 Takeshi’s Castle
Takeshi's Castle will maintain its iconic idea of 100 participants forming the "attacking army," attempting to take the castle, in its 2023 reincarnation. In order to challenge Takeshi for the one million yen (about INR 5.63 lakh at the time of writing) prize, the competitors will face off against guards, devils, and enormous foam mushrooms. With its original Japanese soundtrack, Takeshi's Castle is already available for viewing on Prime Video in other nations.
Since early 2022, rumours of Takeshi's Castle making a comeback on television have been circulating. In a previous interview with indianexpress.com, Javed Jaffrey responded to these rumours and indicated his wish to be a part of the programme. “I want to be back and do it again. I love that show. It has big connect with people.” He remarked.
'Titu Mama' from BB Ki Vines
The new season is expected to maintain the original's peculiarities, including the swashbuckling escapades, entertaining plots, and difficult games with funny commentary. Bhuvan Bam, who is best known for playing 'Titu Mama' from BB Ki Vines, will be adding a distinctly Indian perspective and some humour as participants experience one horrific adventure after another.
The original show
Between its 1986 and 1990 debut, the legendary television programme broke down borders of culture and achieved global success. The programme was created by Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS), and it later served as an example for several game programmes with related themes.
Bollywood actor and comedian Jaaved Jaffrey provided a Hindi voice-over commentary for the show's 2005 Pogo Channel Indian launch. In more than 240 countries, Amazon Prime Video intends to debut the game show relaunch in 2023.
The original Takeshi's castle had a variety of imaginative physical obstacles, like 'Dragon God's Pond', 'You Can't Continue on an Empty Stomach', 'Wall to Freedom Becomes Far', and 'Barrier of the Border.'
There will be 8 episodes in the future season. Date for the show's debut has not yet been specified by Amazon Prime Video.
