Fans of the animated Spider-Man trilogy will have to wait a little longer for the final chapter. Sony Pictures has officially announced that “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” will hit theaters on June 4, 2027.
The news broke at CinemaCon in Las Vegas as producers and directors explained why they had to take a little more time to finish the movie.
The cast and crew of the film, producer Phil Lord and co-directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, described why they delayed the release date further.
“We know how important this franchise is to so many people around us. We just could not run it back,” they said. “So, we decided we needed to take the time to make sure we got it just right.”
Lord reassured fans that the wait would be worth it, saying, “It’s going to be a massive finale to the trilogy.”
While complete information about the movie's plot is still unknown, Lord hinted that Miles Morales will begin the film on the run, pursued by other Spider-People throughout the multiverse.
He intimated that “Gwen and his other friends may or may not be enough to help him save the family that’s been the leading part of the entire system.”
CinemaCon attendees got an exclusive first look at the movie, which showcased its signature bold and unique animation style. In the teaser, Miles is seen saying he’s tired of others telling him how his story should unfold, declaring, “I’m doing things my way.”
A box office hit
The “Spider-Verse” series has been a huge success worldwide.
The initial film, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" (2018), took in $384 million worldwide and received an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
Its sequel, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" (2023), took in an even larger $690 million at the cinema.
Lord further assured that the last film is made for the largest screens available, assuring, “We are prepping this movie especially for your large format screens. It looks insane.”
With excitement building, fans now have a date to mark on their calendars—June 4, 2027—when Miles Morales will return for his biggest adventure yet!
