Mumbai’s iconic sea-facing bungalow, Mannat, which draws hundreds of fans daily hoping to catch a glimpse of Shah Rukh Khan, is set to undergo extensive renovation and expansion work. Starting this May, visitors will no longer see the superstar at his famed residence but rather workers carrying out construction on the property.

Since the renovation work is likely to take almost two years, Shah Rukh Khan and his family are moving temporarily to Pali Hill, Bandra. The Bollywood hunk has rented four floors of a Vashu Bhagnani-owned luxurious apartment, said sources.

Last week, Red Chillies Entertainment, Khan’s production company, signed a lease agreement with Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshika Deshmukh, Bhagnani’s children and co-owners of the property named Puja Casa.

Although the new home might not be as opulent as Mannat, it has enough space to fit his security personnel and other staff, a source privy to the building's design disclosed. The actor will allegedly shell out ₹24 lakh per month for the four rented floors.

Mannat's expansion plans

In November last year, Gauri Khan sought approval from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) to add two additional floors to Mannat’s annexe. This move follows a 2019 amendment in Floor Space Index rules under the Development Control and Promotion Regulation (DCPR), which has allowed several property owners in CRZ areas to expand their homes.

Even after several queries, Shah Rukh Khan's manager Pooja Dadlani and Jackky Bhagnani have not reacted to the development.

For now, fans can wait a little longer to see their beloved superstar back at Mannat, but the highly-awaited renovation is bound to make the house even more iconic.
